Michigan Summer Attractions

We are often asked what are the best summertime attractions in Michigan. Wow, what a loaded question. Are you interested in the natural beauty of Michigan's coast including sand dunes and overlooks? Are you interested in the vast nature areas between the big lakes where you will see small lake communities and amazing historical architecture. Are you interested in Family Fun attractions that might include boats and lakes, farms and agriculture? There is just too much to see and do when visiting Michigan. Personally I would say map out an area of the state and see everything you can in that general area. Next year move to a different area. In about 15 or 16 summers you can decide what the best attractions are in Michigan.. Enjoy Life, Michigan Life!

In 1918 our family built the Fruit House as a place to store and package fresh fruit for the wholesale market. We specialized in apples, but also grew peaches, cherries, strawberries, and raspberries. After wholesaling, we used the Fruit House as a packing facility and a retail outlet.

Our interest in wine came quite naturally, just like it does for most people, a cool, bright Riesling on a warm afternoon, a mammoth California Zinfandel with a pile of BBQ Ribs, and pretty much everything in-between.

Villa Mari founder Marty Lagina made the (some would say) crazy choice to grow grapes that shouldn't grow in Michigan, with the belief that he could produce world class wines that otherwise couldn't be made here. So, true to his Italian heritage, he planted exotic varieties like Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and others.

The Village Winery came about after many years of wine making as a hobby. Through sharing our wines with family and friends we hatched the idea of starting a winery. After a long year or so process of application and build-out, we opened the Village Winery on labor day weekend of 2007 during our annual Romeo Peach Festival.

Stop in at the winery, right down the street (towards Lake Huron) from Birchwood Mall in Fort Gratiot, MI. Please feel free to contact us regarding any questions you might have about our Wine-Making Techniques.
