Like many of us, our histories begin with our dreams fueling a way of life. Originally from the Detroit area, Walter and Eileen Brys visited the Napa Valley in the 1970's as part of a business trip when Walter worked for Blue Cross of Michigan shortly after they were married.

Our interest in wine came quite naturally, just like it does for most people, a cool, bright Riesling on a warm afternoon, a mammoth California Zinfandel with a pile of BBQ Ribs, and pretty much everything in-between.

Think of it as your very own, perfectly charming winery and Old World inn stocked with fine wine and staffed with attentive proprietors whose sole purpose is to provide a space or experience to meet your every need.

Villa Mari founder Marty Lagina made the (some would say) crazy choice to grow grapes that shouldn't grow in Michigan, with the belief that he could produce world class wines that otherwise couldn't be made here. So, true to his Italian heritage, he planted exotic varieties like Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and others.

WaterFire is family-owned and run by Chantal and Mike, who live on the vineyard with their son. As an environmental scientist and wine lover, grape growing resonated with Chantal as a way to connect herself and others with the land.

Getting its French title from proprietor Lucie Matthies' middle name and paying homage to the French immigrants who settled in the area, Chateau Fontaine was a deserted potato farm and cow pasture when Dan Matthies discovered the property in the 1970's with its favorable south-facing slopes for growing grapes.

Willow Vineyards was established in 1992. It was and continues to be a work of passion and love, created and designed by John and Jo Crampton. Located on a beautiful, wind-swept hillside in Suttons Bay, the panoramic views of West Traverse Bay add to the majesty of the vineyard. Willow Vineyards was established in 1992.

It started with one vineyard more than three decades ago. Now Chateau Grand Traverse has moved into its second generation of family winemaking – producing eighteen wine varieties from four vineyards sprawling across more than 120 acres, all earning countless medals to attest to the care and quality we put into every bottle.
