What to See and Do in Region 4 -Grand Rapids Grand Haven and Holland Area

Allegan County, Michigan is situated among the rolling farmlands, grasslands, forests, lakes, and streams of the southwestern portion of the Lower Peninsula. It is an area of incredible scenic beauty and historical significance, with many parts of the county existing much as they did 100 years ago.

The historic courthouse square in downtown Charlotte holds the 1885 Renaissance Revival Eaton County Courthouse. On the National Register of Historic Places, the courthouse is now a museum, featuring the restored interior, circuit courtroom and offices.

The 158-acre main campus may take up to two, four, or eight hours to walk through depending on what you choose to explore. The Gilmore Car Museum started in the early 1960s when Donald S. Gilmore began collecting vintage automobiles. Some of the first vehicles in his collection included a 1927 Ford Model T, a 1913 Rolls Royce, and a 1920 Pierce Arrow. Restoring that classic Pierce-Arrow at his home on nearby Gull Lake ignited a passion.

Step back into the Netherlands of over 100 years ago, on a day when a festival came to town. Within this happy village, your family has many entertainment choices including Dutch Dancing, wooden shoe carving, rides, games, friendly farm animals, photo ops, food, drink and shopping. From kids to grandparents, the memories are endless.

The Holland Museum tells the story of Holland, Michigan, from its settlement by Dutch immigrants to today’s innovative, successful, and diverse community.

The historic Cappon House was the home of Holland's first mayor and local tannery proprietor, Isaac Cappon. Built in 1874, it is now partially restored to its appearance in 1900. Visitors to the Cappon House step back in time, immersing themselves in the stories of Isaac Cappon and his large family.
